Dan Ransom in Heaps Canyon: Best Zion Canyon Ever?

As my feet hit the boulders above emerald pool, my first thought was “best canyon ever?”

I don't know. It's a silly question. But there is no question - that canyon is darn good.

Mystery Canyon - A Zion Fall Classic - Nov 2010

The “lake” area was WAY greener than I had ever seen it. Lots of small storms this summer and fall musta kept it in good condition to grow stuff, here some willows and cottonwoods.

Spearhead Canyon (and Wildflowers), an Overnight Canyon Trip, Zion National Park, UT

Brian Cabe and I ascended Hook Canyon to the Majestic/Cathedral pass and summit plateau in October 2000, and descended the canyon the next day. We found no evidence of descents in the upper canyon, but the final chimney section (below The Spearhead) was bolted for descent.

I was up by Lava Point shooting flowers, a week or so ago, and measured the flow coming out of the dam as 12-14 cfs - which did not seem like very much - up there!
